We’re very excited that Sept 10-12 will be the first annual Ontario Greenland Camp. Cheri Perry and Turner Wilson of Kayakways along with Adam Hansen a native Greenlander will be our mentors for the weekend.

Cheri Perry

Cheri Perry and Turner Wilson are sole partners of Kayak Ways, LLC. Cheri competed in the Greenland National Kayaking Championships in both 2004 and 2005, in events ranging from rolling to individual and relay races, winning a dozen gold medals. Some of you may recognize Cheri from her appearance in Justin Curgenven’s This Is the Sea 3 DVD from Cackle TV Productions. Cheri has been teaching Greenland-style kayaking for over six years, and has been on staff at several events in the United States and beyond. In addition to her paddling skills, Cheri is a talented yoga instructor offering targeted yoga for paddlers sessions.

Turner Wilson

A skinny sticker for 12 years, and one of those rare paddlers outside of Greenland who began paddling with a traditional blade, Turner Wilson has taught Greenland-style kayaking for 7 years, at several national and international kayaking symposia. Turner competed in the Greenland National Kayaking Championships in July of 2005, in events ranging from rolling to individual and relay races, winning 6 gold medals. With previous careers in art, woodworking, and design/build residential architecture as background, Turner now builds custom to you Greenland-style skin on frame qajaq, paatit (greenland paddles), and norsaq (rolling sticks), to order, and provides workshops for the same purpose to individuals and groups.

Adam Hansen

Adam, a greenlander; has since the age of 13 been kayaking both SOF & seakayaks. With participation in the Greenlandic kayak championships in his teenage years, he has an all-round experience of SOF's & ropes.
For the last ten years Adam has spent his summers paddling and guiding in the arctic seas of Greenland. Adam is teaching with Turner and Cheri at Delmarva this year as well as the Michigan Training Camp.

Cheri and Turner have spent many years teaching at symposiums around the globe, some of which include, The Scottish Kayak Symposium, Sea Kayak Georgia Skills Week, Sweetwater BCU/Greenland Week, RI Rough Water Symposium, Delmarva Paddlers Retreat, TAKS Traditional Watercraft Symposium, Hudson River Greenland Festival, Michigan Training Camp, Mystic Seaport Arctic Boat Weekend, Barrier Island Sea Kayak Symposium, the Wooden Boat Show, Vermont BCU Week, and SSTIKS. We figured it’s about time Canada experienced a little of the Turner and Cheri magic!

The weekend will also have mentors from Ontario as well. Instructors from learntokayak.ca, The Complete Paddler and Harbourfront Canoe and Kayak will all be part of the fun and excitement of the Ontario Greenland Camp!

The Ontario Greenland Camp will be a full weekend event and will be held at Camp Tamarack near Bracebridge only two hours drive from Toronto.   The goal of the Ontario Greenland Camp is to introduce the joy of Greenland Kayaking to as many paddlers as possible so come out and discover the traditional kayaking skills and tools of the Arctic's Inuit. Their craft offers valuable lessons and skills that can truly improve your skill with a euro blade although most of us who are passionate about the Greenland stick say “Once you go stick you never go back!
